OBITUARY DR. ANNA SUVOROVA
Abstract
The passing of Anna Suvorova is a loss in many ways. Historian and litterateur, she was a very esteemed member of this journal’s Editorial Advisory Board. She was versatile both as a historian and a literary critic, focusing on those topics and themes which related to our country. In 2009 she was awarded a Sitara-i-Imtiaz for her contribution to research on Pakistan’s cultural heritage. By the time she put down her pen, her contribution to the research of Pakistan’s political heritage had also become legend.
Anna Suvorova served as the Head of the Department of Asian Literature at the Russian Academy of Sciences and by her writings benefitted scholars round the globe. Her move from one topic to another is most interesting. Her earliest book made available to the English- speaking world was Masnavi A Study of Urdu Romance, (Karachi, Oxford University Press, 2000)
