LOCATING THE NIGHTS OF SHAQQUL QAMAR AND AL-QADR
Abstract
Splitting of the moon in the firmament and the night of al-Qadr are two special events in the life of the Prophet. But in spite of sufficient data in our hands, because of non-clarity on the modus operandi of the Arab calendar of that time, we have not been able to establish their dates for the last several centuries. Now that the lost calendar of the Arabs has since been rediscovered, no more it possess a problem to us. The moon did split on the night of September 29, 619 CE and the great night of al-Qadr always turns up on the longest night of the year without any relation of whatsoever nature to any particular lunar month.
