Abstract

Bābā Farīd is a popular Chishtī Ṣūfī of South Asia. He was a Ṣūfī poet and credited regarding the introduction of the ashloke genre in Indo-Pākistan subcontinent. His Punjābī verses are preserved in Sri Gurū Granth Sahib entitled Ashloke Shaykh Farīd. This article, with a descriptive-analytical method and phenomenological approach, tries to explain a thematic compatibility between Íat al-Qulūb and the Ashloke Shaykh Farīd. It is important to mention that the authorship of the Ashloke Shaykh Farīd is contentious. In this way the study is also a unique contribution as an endeavor has also been made to critically appraise the authenticity of the Ashloke Shaykh Farīd.
