ARCHAEOLOGICAL RECONNAISSANCE OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES IN DISTRICT KOHAT, KPK, PAKISTAN
Abstract
This paper discusses an archaeological survey conducted in 2005 within one of the significant districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The survey received financial support from the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The primary objective of this survey was to explore both new sites and previously documented archaeological sites in District Kohat. The artifacts recovered from the surface of some of these sites, known as surface collections, provide evidence that the area was once inhabited by various communities in ancient times. Some of the notable sites and locations documented during the survey include Gora Kabristan, Kohat Cantonment, Gora Qabristan Kacheri ,Shah Faisal Gate, Hindu Mohalla Temples, Government Primary School Sangate Dharamshala, Mohallah Shezadgan, UP Church, Shimla Pahari, Syed Pir Fateh Shah Tomb. sheds light on the rich history and cultural heritage of the District Kohat, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
